wow! i haven’t been on my blog in a while!

i was busy preparing for and being on spring break.

not that i went anywhere exciting….

just home.

between that and changing my career track

(i am now studying to become a real estate agent!)

i haven’t had much time to complete any art.

but i did, however, finish a piece for my sister’s birthday.

she has always loved my work and always wants something for her birthday or christmas.

so, i made an abstract piece with her favorite colors:

blue, green, and purple.

I am absolutely IN LOVE with how it turned out

and the frame is amazing!

(thanks to Pottery Barn Teen!)

now to make a set of three for myself ūüôā

today i finished a piece.

not because i planned to or because i necessarily wanted to.

i went to my painting class this morning ready to work on a couple of projects,

including my eyelash painting.

and then i received some devastating news;

the curator of the wsu museum, and one of my mentors, keith wells, had died last night.

i was completely shocked considering i see him almost every day.

i looked at my paintings and wanted to go home. to not be around art. to not be there.

 but then i thought,

keith would want me to keep working.

if i saw him in the halls today he would ask me how i was, make a joke,

and would be proud of the work i was doing.

so i put on mascara and with watery eyes made my last few marks.

the tears in my eyes stained the paper and made the mascara bleed.

and then i knew it was done.

those last marks were the exact thing that this piece needed to be complete.

i originally planned to keep working on it until the whole paper was almost black.

but i’m glad i stopped today.

it gives the work more meaning that i thought it would ever have.

and i love it.

here’s to you keith

my animals February 28, 2013

i realized that i haven’t shared a huge part of my life on my blog yet,

and that is my animals!

my whole life i have been an animal lover.

there hasn’t been a single day that i haven’t had at least one pet.

so let me introduce you to my two loves who reside with me at school!

ginger is my mom’s horse,

but she was nice enough to let me keep her in pullman for my junior and senior year

(mom knows she’ll keep me busy and out of trouble :P).

ginger and i barrel race and do western gaming,

but she’s aging,

so once we get back home she’ll become mom’s halter show horse.

she’s one of the sweetest horses i’ve ever known and will let anyone ride her.

maybe she’ll even be my kids’ horse one day!

then there’s:

my little devil.

her cuteness is deceiving.

she’s curious about everything and will get into everything!

as soon as we get a box in the mail she claims it as hers and spends the rest of the day inside of it.

i cannot take enough pictures of her

so here are a few.

maybe i was wrong…

she likes to get into everything except pumpkins ūüėÄ

and the strange thing loves to go on road trips and sit in the back seat.

i doubt i’m the only animal enthusiast out there!

how many pets do you have?

do they have funny quirks like sassy?

greek yogurt pancakes! February 24, 2013

i have found  the best pancakes ever!

this morning, while browsing pinterest,

i came upon an incredibly easy and relatively healthy recipe.

they are called greek yogurt pancakes

from everyday belle.

we made them this morning and it took no longer than 10 minutes!

they were light and fluffy.

not heavy and dry like most pancakes;

probably because of the greek yogurt! yum.

seriously, the best pancakes i think i have ever had!

give them a try,

you won’t be¬†disappointed!

here’s the recipe:

6 oz of your favorite Greek yogurt (can be any flavor, but i used the greek gods vanilla honey)

1 egg

scant 1/2 cup flour

1 tsp baking soda

  • Open the yogurt container and stir the yogurt until it‚Äôs smooth and creamy.¬† Crack an egg over the yogurt and stir to combine.¬† The resulting mixture should be pale yellow in color and have a few lumps here and there.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour and baking soda.
  • Pour yogurt/egg mixture into the bowl with the flour and baking soda.¬† Stir to combine.¬† The batter will be extremely thick.
  • Spoon the batter onto a sprayed griddle or pan heated to medium-high. I usually make four big pancakes, but you could also make 8 smaller ones.
  • Flip the pancakes when they start to bubble a bit on the surface.¬† Cook until golden brown on both sides and serve with butter, syrup, fruit, Nutella‚Ķ.anything! Enjoy!

the two hair paintings are finished!

and look great side by side.

i have started on my eyelash painting

and here’s what i’ve got so far:

i’m going to make a gradient.

the bottom will be darkest and it will gradually fade out.

it’s going to take a lot of time

and a lot of mascara!

….and a lot of pain….

but it’s worth it!

stay tuned for updates

happy valentine’s day February 14, 2013

happy valentine’s day everyone!

i know a lot of people, not just single people,

don’t like valentine’s day.

even if you’re in a relationship it seems like everyone is competing to out-do other couples.

kind of ridiculous,

but just remember that today is a day to remind those in your life that you love them!

and it’s a day to count your blessings!

i know i am!

i was woken up this morning by the boyfriend who had a rose in his mouth

and a bouquet and chocolate on the dinning table.

i was also surprised to see that nick’s submission to our university’s facebook page about how we met

had been posted!

the school wanted stories about how couples had met at WSU

so nick wrote up a little thing.

here’s what he wrote:

“Not only was Pullman the place where my parents met, but I also met my wonderful girlfriend, Chelsea Johansen, here at WSU. In spring semester of Sophomore year we met in an art class and also found out that we had an art history class together as well. Over the course of the semester we got to know each other better seeing as we saw each other every day and eventually I started¬†to really like her. I’ve never had too much confidence when it came to asking women out, but when I found out she was into trucks and guns, I figured I shouldn’t let this one slip by so I finally built the courage. Now we have been dating for almost two years, and she is my love and inspiration. I’m positive she’s the one for me! Go Cougs!”

is it spring yet? February 9, 2013

i’ve been itching for spring to come!

warm weather, sunshine, and flowers!!

sadly, it’s still snowing here in washington

so i found a way to make spring come early,

and indoors.

they’re called paperwhites!

i know, a lot of people already know about or have these in their homes,

but i’m young and have only been on my own for 4 years,

so i’m still getting into the whole home decor thing.

i bought mine from amazon.

they were really inexpensive and good quality

(which surprised me).

i planted some in this clear vase that is now sitting on the back of my toilet ūüėõ

i put rocks in the bottom for the roots to grab onto,

and i love being able to see them.

once they grew tall enough i tied a ribbon around two so they would stay together and upright.

pretty cute i think.

i also planted some in blue mason jars to put in our other bathroom.

as my friends know, i am totally obsessed with mason jars,

so this was another great way to use them!

i had a lot more bulbs, but sadly found out that they are poisonous to cats…

my bad

(don’t worry, kitty is fine).

i had my other bulbs in my kitchen sitting on top of jars just like this.

i loved this idea because you can watch the roots grow unobstructed.

and i just got bottles at a thrift store for about a dollar each!

hopefully this will give you some inspiration for bringing the outdoors inside

and starting spring a little early.
